I’ve seen a lot of posts about boycotting the game because of her tweets, and some people certainly will. But out of the 100 people that say they will, only 1-2 actually will. This is one of those things people say publicly for social credit but in private, don’t go through with it. (I’m specifically referring to the purchase and playing of the game)

u/pintobrains Feb 01 '23

Lol if you don’t use twitter the boycott doesn’t exist

30

u/VargDolboebnes Feb 01 '23

It will fuel them lol

79

u/LogicalAnswerk Feb 01 '23

Trans people are not a big market in video games.

273

u/Yoyo_boi202 Feb 01 '23

Yes, this has given them more free advertising. I feel conflicted about it myself as I don't have anything against the creators, but obviously do have something against jk. I might just pirate it and that's it XD

457

u/Gort_baringa Feb 01 '23

JK already has her money dude. She’s incredibly wealthy. Don’t hurt the developers who have their own bills to pay

272

u/Qbertjack Feb 01 '23

The actual programmers and artists aren't getting paid per-sale, they'll be fine either way.

As for the dev company: What a loss, we may never see another Disney tie-in cashgrab from them again 😔

120

u/ParadoxSociety Feb 01 '23

bonuses based on metacritic scores, units sold, etc are common in the industry at studios of that size/budget

144

u/Gort_baringa Feb 01 '23

If the company closes it still hurts the programmers and other staff employed with them.

41

u/HedgeFlounder Feb 01 '23

The company will be fine. They’re owned by Warner Bros.

→ More replies

91

u/RedN0v4 Feb 01 '23

I heavily encourage you to purchase the game as opposed to pirating it. The developers are given a yearly bonus based on the sales of the game, and JK Rowling likely got her royalties ahead of time (even if she didn't, she'd still get very little overall per-purchase). Pirating games that are being sold by driven and passionate developers is just stealing from hard working individuals, which is a rather shirty thing to do. I'm not saying you need to love JK Rowling, but don't hurt the livelihood of hard working individuals who are relying on sales to make a living (that yearly bonus is a huge part of a developers paycheck considering the horrible hours they have to work to make games like this).

73

u/synister29 Feb 01 '23

That hurts the developers a lot more the JK Rowling. She has fuck you money and this is meaningless less to her

69

u/crunchyshamster Feb 01 '23

I'm going to donate the amount I spend on the game to the Trevor Project to try and offset it a bit

14

u/Yoyo_boi202 Feb 01 '23

Yeah I mean honestly, most people who will buy it are probably buying it for their children so I doubt they even know or care about jk

61

u/superhappyfunball13 Feb 01 '23

She's been filthy rich for years. She continues to make over 50 million a year from book sales, movie sales, and theme parks. Not buying a Harry Potter video game will not affect her in any way.

Thinking not buying this game is going to stick it to a billionaire is almost as stupid as thinking her tweets are hateful.

2

u/CrazzluzSenpai Feb 01 '23

It has Denuvo so good luck pirating it.

Just asking: What do Redditors consider to be the one very worst, most "anti-trans" tweet she ever made?

545

u/awesomedan24 Feb 01 '23

Good question. I'm not sure, but some are pointing to this "anti-trans manifesto" on her website

https://www.jkrowling.com/opinions/j-k-rowling-writes-about-her-reasons-for-speaking-out-on-sex-and-gender-issues/

I’ve read halfway through this thing and I can’t find the part where she’s a monster yet. Can someone please forward me the section?

1.3k

u/chugonthis Feb 01 '23 edited Feb 02 '23 Silver Buff Doge Facepalm

She's not remotely a monster, she just deos not agree 100% with their agenda and they don't like it.

The difference is that she's so rich they can't cancel her no matter how hard they try so they attack those making products related to her books.

These people are pathetic.

Edit: all of you are weak for reporting self harm and suicide shit

That’s exactly the thing. She has not said anything hateful against trans people. She doesn’t promote violence. She is just against trans idea

348

u/mulethedestroyer Feb 01 '23

She's not against trans people, she supports them. Her 2 issues is that a trans woman is not exactly and literally the same thing as a biological woman and that men should not be trusted with the honor system to access women only spaces.

326

u/CountryInteresting Feb 01 '23

Well. A trans woman isn't the same thing as a biological woman. It's obvious. It's not pro or against. It's just a fact. An obvious one

So you make a meme about J.K.Rowlin being transphobic and how she should shut the fuck up but dont know anything transphobic she said?

348

u/Kazushi_Sakuraba Feb 01 '23

You know… I actually agree with a lot of that.

If lesbian women don’t want to have sex with trans women, they shouldn’t have to. Just like if men don’t want to have sex with trans women they shouldn’t be labeled bigots either.

In fact, I’ll take a step further: demonizing these people, going after them, because they don’t want to have sex with someone is fucked up as hell.

Can someone explain how this is even “anti-trans”

97

u/RosePhox Feb 01 '23

For starters, her bringing up lesbian women being forced to have sex with anyone was a major unprompted straw.

That, by itself, is proof of extreme bad faith.

u/Kazushi_Sakuraba Feb 01 '23

I open up this “anti-trans manifesto”.

Imagine my surprise when the “worst” thing she says is that people shouldn’t be labeled bigots for not wanting to have sex with trans people.

Honestly everyday it gets closer to “I can follow all my feelings but if you follow any of yours you’re a terrible person”

139

u/DawdlingScientist Feb 01 '23

Man that last sentence is really spot on.

I read through half that thing so far and it seems very well though out and thorough so far. Not super bigoted, at least I don’t think so.

u/Burrito-Creature Feb 01 '23

i may not be the greatest at reading comprehension but that honestly doesn’t sound very transphobic to me. Heck I believe in part of it she directly states that trans rights are human rights and that trans lives matter.

Or maybe she’s just saying that sarcastically and implying that’s the most accepted statements. It ain’t the vibe I got from it but maybe I’m just stupid lmbo. Feel free to tell me if she did actually say something horrendous and I just glossed over it somewhere.

119

u/chugonthis Feb 01 '23

Nothing she has said is anti trans, she's pro woman and most people are trying to force women to accept biological males into their spaces.

People even get mad at lesbians who don't want to date trans women that still have a penis which is just ridiculous.

85

u/MindlessMoss Feb 01 '23

The more i read of this, the more it sounds like the trans activists are in the wrong and I should buy this game to stop their hate from being successful

55

u/SadFox-29 Feb 01 '23

...This isn’t an easy piece to write, for reasons that will shortly become clear, but I know it’s time to explain myself on an issue surrounded by toxicity. I write this without any desire to add to that toxicity....

damn, that's so hateful...

She is not openly anti trans but it seems like whenever she talks about trans people she calls them predators and specifically mentions trans rapists which is I think quit harmful. It’s like saying all black people are criminals or white people are colonizers.

119

u/Difficult-Brick6763 Feb 01 '23

Yeah if you're posting tweets on the reg like, transwomen are just men who put on dresses to rape women...I mean, I think that counts as being anti-trans.

17

u/joausj Feb 01 '23 edited Feb 02 '23

Probably free advertising. Let's be honest how much of the games target audience (that being people that grew up in the 1990s and 2000s reading/watching Harry Potter) are actually going to boycott the game?

We're talking about people that lined up outside of bookstores in the 2000s and 2010s who are now in their 20s-30s that have nostalgia towards the franchise and likely has never heard of the whole JK controversy (which seems a bit overblown imo, worst ive seen is stating that biologically male athletes should not be in female sports).

1%? Maybe 5% max? That's probably gonna be made up by the people buying the game to "spite the sjws" and "own the libs" who would likely have given 0 shits about the game now that the trans community made it a political thing.

Here is a crazy idea..... who cares what JK Rowling says. Like... seriously... who the fuck cares

You can still enjoy the books and movies and games and still not care at all about her.

They are not her's anymore.. the general public owns them.

People need to just start ignoring people.. it's wildly effective

I honestly don't think she's anti trans, and i share most of her views. She's quite balanced imo

u/JP2020ASP Feb 01 '23

Lol ign aurther trying hard to boycott the game

5

u/Leaf-01 Feb 01 '23

I left iFunny like two years ago to get away from the terminally online internet idiots. Seems like this subreddit is just as bad looking at all these comments

u/BadAtVidya92 Feb 01 '23

Please, the game will sell itself.

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '23

I support JK Rowling!

2

u/Crissan- Feb 01 '23

I don't understand why anything she says would affect anyone's opinion of a game that she had nothing to dig with, it's ridiculous, the developers are not too blame for what she says or does.

u/Sorry-Examination766 Feb 01 '23

I mean we're all free to speak our mind . Well maybe not on Social media anymore. FB would throw me in FB jail all the time . But just in general it's ok to have your own opinions no reason to boycott a product. All I know is if it's a good game I'm playing it . Fuck the left

Disregard haters, enjoy what you enjoy. Seperate the art from the artist.

8

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '23

hey no hate, free to enjoy what you like.

liek for me i don't hate HP but i also don'r rate it. more a tolkien/lewis fan with a dablle of Robin Hobbs.

but that doesn't mean you and I can not be friends and enjoy our mutual love of fantasy genre.

people just get too caught up in a fictional story world is all.

Anti Tran’s tweets?

1

u/Donotcomenearme Feb 01 '23

She did just save 100 female lawyers and their families from the Taliban recently; with her own money and in secret.

3

u/TheHighBuddha Feb 01 '23

Didn't even know about this game until redditors started complaining about it. Now I'm definitely buying it.

2

u/Hephaestus_God Feb 01 '23

JK is just Oprah but gives out being gay and straight to any character she wrote 15 years ago at a whim

2

u/BurritoZee Feb 01 '23

What’s she been saying this time? 🤔

2

u/timc_720 Feb 01 '23

Don’t think what she thinks will affect the game’s sales performance

2

u/WickedFox1o1 Feb 01 '23

I don't really care what JK tweets, however I do like the wizarding world and the game looks like a lot of fun that's what I'm basing my purchase on

9

u/Call_Me_Steiner Feb 01 '23

this is literally where all the hate she receives comes from. In what world is this bad?

6

u/WickedFox1o1 Feb 01 '23

Compared to some other things I've seen on Twitter that's pretty tame honestly. It's probably just Twitter people who are chronically online freaking out

11

u/Call_Me_Steiner Feb 01 '23

Same as the guy who made this meme, claims that she publicly hates all trans people and they can never provide any evidence. Meanwhile, I can, in 1 Google search, prove the opposite.

2

u/WickedFox1o1 Feb 01 '23

A lot of the time it seems people kinda jump on a band wagon. I can't really say what she's done is bad or good as I've done zero research and I doubt JK saying anything will affect the game negatively I think it was the most wish listed game on steam or something like that for a little bit

There are so many people who are misinformed about Rowling in these comments. She is actively hateful and transphobic, this is a fact.
